Strategy and Partnerships Manager, Connecting Cambridgeshire and Smart Cambridge Programmes

Greater Cambridge Partnership
Cambridgeshire County Council

Dan is the strategy and partnerships manager for the Connecting Cambridgeshire programme which was set up to improve Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s digital infrastructure – including broadband, mobile, public access Wifi coverage and to harness data and emerging technology to support other programmes of work, to drive economic growth, help our businesses and communities to thrive and make it easier to access public services.

As part of the ‘Smart’ work as part of the GCP, Dan has delivered a £3.2m autonomous vehicle pilot which saw the deployment of the UK’s first purpose built autonomous public transport vehicle to be deployed as part of the public transport system. He also sat on the steering groups for the Capri and Flourish projects, as well as working with the University of Cambridge on the region’s Autonomous Vehicle strategy.

He has led work to begin to harness the data already available to the region developing a real time data hub with the University of Cambridge and working a network of companies on data collection, aggregation, and visualisation. This has also included the trialling of new data collection technologies using camera-based systems and its use in roadside infrastructure such as signals. Dan worked on early stage work to develop a basic digital twin of the area using data from various urban systems to take a more holistic approach to modelling. He has also led the development of a multi-modal multi-operator travel app, travel screens and totems for the area.

As well as transport work Dan is leading work on the deployment of 5G infrastructure and the deployment of technologies such as LoRa WAN.
