Jason Benjamin has been a parking professional for over 30 years. Jason graduated in town planning from Oxford Brookes University in 1991 before completing his MBA from University of Birmingham in 1994. Jason ran his family car park management company between 1989-1996 before joining a planning consultancy in 1997 as a parking consultant where he was commissioned to review and value parking assets for public sector organisations. In 1999, Jason worked as a parking manager at Heathrow Airport before joining Project Centre in 2001 as a Car Parking Consultant where he also developed his knowledge of on street parking enforcement, design and implementation. In 2002 he was commissioned to undertake a comprehensive business review of park and ride sites across the UK, and assisted NCP in developing working parking partnerships with local authorities.
In 2004, Jason joined Cheltenham Borough Council, which was one of the first authorities to have pay by phone parking in car parks in 2006. In the same year Jason helped set up the South West BPA regional group and became its inaugural chairperson. In 2007 Jason oversaw the creation of the new in house on street enforcement team as well as project managed significant maintenance investment in strategic car parks.
In 2010 Jason joined Poole Borough Council as parking services manager and worked closely with the traffic management and policy teams. Jason project managed the expansion of on street parking along Sandbanks and oversaw significant investment in new back office technology such as virtual permits and online challenges. In March 2019 Jason joined Basingstoke and Deane Council for a brief period before becoming a self employed parking consultant in January 2020.
Jason has recently written an online article for parking review on the potential impact of AV congestion on future parking revenues for local authorities.
