We’re excited to announce our three keynote speakers, along with their presentation topics, for TRANSPORT Smart Class, London & South East England 2019, which will be hosted at Browns Courtrooms, Covent Garden, on Wednesday 9th October.
• “Transport Innovation in London” – Transport for London is the integrated transport body for the Capital responsible for moving people and goods around London. This keynote presentation, from TfL’s Head of Commercial Innovation, Rikesh Shah, will focus on how TfL is working with market innovators who can work with the city to help deliver the outcomes of Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s, Transport Strategy: “At its heart is a bold aim for 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport by 2041” (Valerie Shawcross, Deputy Mayor of Transport). Rikesh will also discuss how corporates and large bodies, including TfL, are changing the way they work with innovators given the fast changes in technology.
• “The Role of Smart Mobility in Delivering a Transport Strategy for the South East” – Transport for the South East is an emerging Sub National Transport Body. Their mission is to grow the South East’s economy by delivering a safe, sustainable, and integrated transport system that makes the area more productive and improves the quality of life for all residents, and protects and enhances its natural and built environment. This keynote, from TfSE’s Technical Lead, Mark Valleley, will explore the potential role that smart mobility initiatives will play in helping TfSE to achieve this mission as part of their emerging transport strategy. Whilst smart mobility has the potential to offer travellers more choice, reduce congestion and emissions and make more efficient use of existing infrastructure, it also has the potential to exacerbate existing problems. The presentation will identify the issues that need to be addressed to ensure that smart mobility initiatives can be shaped in a way that will ensure TfSE’s mission is accomplished.
• “Enabling Sustainable Growth: Transport Innovation in Milton Keynes” – Milton Keynes is widely regarded as one of the most successful, and ambitious, new towns in the UK and continues to grow rapidly. However, with the population planned to double to 500,000 over the next 30 years, the reliance on the private car must come to an end. The council is working with partners on a range of initiatives to transform mobility in Milton Keynes and ensure the city remains quick, easy and safe to get around. This keynote presentation, by MK’s Head of Transport (and Mobility Strategy lead), Steve Hayes, will explore the Council’s role in developing new data-led mobility solutions.
TRANSPORT Smart Class, London & South East England 2019 will show key buyer-side stakeholders how the latest digital technology-enabled solutions, data-driven strategies and best practices can help tackle the transport and mobility challenges faced by faced by the capital, it’s hinterland, burgeoning smart city-regions of the South East and East Anglia (e.g. Greater Brighton, Cambridge, MK, Norwich, Oxford, Peterborough, Reading, Portsmouth, Southampton etc), and beyond, and deliver a transport system that will allow passengers to travel efficiently, safely and with minimal impact on the environment.
