At TRANSPORT Smart Class, Wales 2020, Ashley Bijster’s presentation on behalf of Imperial and Videalert highlighted the serious impact traffic pollution is having on productivity, life expectancy, diabetes and asthma cases and demonstrated (with additional input from James Trotter during the roundtable sessions) how the move towards managing air quality in UK towns and cities needn’t be a giant leap into the unknown but can be achieved by adding clean air zone rules and differentiated pricing for behaviour change to proven technologies, such as smart parking and emission permits, digital ANPR, AQ sensors and EV charging infrastructure, to make a very real difference to citizens’ quality of life.
