The Independent reported that 44% of UK councils do not have fit-for-purpose air and pollution monitoring capabilities. With a more stringent government Air Quality Plan coming into force, councils face significant fines if they are non-compliant. Vortex IoT’s Managing Director, Adrian Sutton, joined us in Cardiff recently for TRANSPORT Smart Class, Wales 2020 and delivered a thought-provoking view of the importance of the ‘Air that We Breathe’. Assisted by Project Manager, John Buckoke, during the deeper-dive roundtable sessions that followed, Adrian explained how emerging technologies and innovation will contribute to our ever-changing societal needs and how developing a new Hyper-Local Air Quality Monitoring solution, backed up by mesh networking connectivity, can provide revenue-generating opportunities for local authorities and play a key role in the creation of new urban business models that are essential as the shape of our towns and cities changes over time. Adrian also outlined specific benefits of AQM deployment for schools and highlighted Vortex IoT’s prestigious contract with FIFA, for whom they are providing AQMs in Qatar – across stadia, training and fan zones, and the wider urban area – in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.
