At TRANSPORT Smart Class, Wales 2022 last month we were pleased to welcome back Vortex IoT’s Commercial Director, John Vinson. Following on from his presentation at our South West England edition the month before, John enlightened our Welsh audience about technologies for environmental scanning products that can provide real-time condition-based monitoring of highway and urban environment assets.
To make proactive decisions you need the correct data from your environment, and delivering actionable data is at the forefront of the technologies that Vortex (part of Marston Holdings) are developing. John explained how to leverage this real-time 3D data to provide notifications and reporting so that you know the condition of all your assets (roads, pavements, kerbside objects and street furniture), can detect potential enforcement breaches (parking violations, for example) and are able to prevent future failure for a safer, smarter and more sustainable city. In addition to continuous fixed infrastructure scanning, John demonstrated that by autonomously scanning the built environment with vehicle-2-infrastructure scanners retrofitted to bus fleets (and applying AI to the data) you can move from reactive to predictive maintenance.
His presentation also addressed air quality monitoring for a cleaner future and mesh networks for sim-free sensors. John’s insightful case study of Neath Port Talbot (“The Los Angeles of the UK!”) explained how hyperlocal sensors are providing high resolution air quality data for a truly unique environment.
John was joined for the deeper dive hosted roundtable sessions by Vortex Co-founder and CTO, Dr Behzad Heravi.
