Tiptapp is a crowdsourced peer-to-peer marketplace app where users help each other to transport items – ranging from furniture, clothes and washing machines to building materials and garden waste – from one place to another. Promoting “Ridesharing of Things” and activating underused space in vehicles moving “across town”, the app connects anyone in need of help with thousands of rated helpers, regular people with a car, time on their hands and who are ready to provide assistance. Launched in 2016 in Sweden, Tiptapp has saved in excess of 22,000 items from landfill to date and also saved the CO2 from more than 100,000 drives to recycling centres. At WASTE MANAGEMENT Smart Class 2019, Andreas Lanz explained how Tiptapp is now making recycling easier for the citizens of London and, through collaborations with councils, can increase the rate of recycling and reuse across society. He also outlined how items disposed of via the app are being correctly recycled.
