The City of London Corporation looks after the streets in the historic financial district of London which includes collecting waste from residential properties such as the Barbican estate and flats in old Churches as well as ensuring the medieval alleyways and frontages to some of the country’s most iconic skyscrapers are swept to the highest standards. In April 2019, Veolia ES were awarded the contract for street cleansing and waste collection for a period of up to 16 years. A key ambition for the contract was that it be data driven, innovative and flexible. Last Wednesday, at WASTE MANAGEMENT Smart Class 2019, City of London’s Joe Kingston and Vince Dignam outlined the associated challenges and demonstrated some of the data which the Client and Contractor have available to them and the benefits this can bring to the City going forward. Joe and Vince’s presentation also highlighted the use of zero emissions vehicles on the contract which will include the first fully electric fleet of RCVs in the country.
