Milton Keynes is widely regarded as one of the most successful and ambitious new towns in the UK and continues to grow rapidly. However, with the population planned to double to 500,000 over the next 30 years, the reliance on the private car must come to an end. The council is working with partners on a range of initiatives to transform mobility in Milton Keynes and ensure the city remains quick, easy and safe to get around. At TRANSPORT Smart Class, London & South East England 2019 MK’s Head of Transport, Steve Hayes, explored the Council’s role in developing new data-led mobility solutions. Steve’s keynote highlighted an impressive array of ‘innovations in action’, from smart transport ticketing, multi-vendor parking payment platforms, sensor applications and dockless electric bike schemes to inductive charged electric buses, delivery robots, autonomous pod trials and the UK’s largest ultra-fast charging hub.
