With the recent doubling of the budget for the promotion of active travel along with ambitious targets for increasing the mode share of active travel, there is a growing need for better data and methods to evaluate the performance of interventions designed to promote active travel. At TRANSPORT Smart Class, Scotland 2018, Dr David McArthur explained, on behalf of the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) and the University of Glasgow, how crowdsourced mobility data might help address this need. He also outlined some potential strengths and weaknesses of using such data along with directions for future research.
