There’s a lot of talk about smart mobility and how it might change how people travel and how city streets look and feel. The keynote presented by the City of London Corporation’s Bruce McVean at last Wednesday’s TRANSPORT Smart Class, London & South East England 2018 considered how the smartest approach might be to focus on the needs of people walking, and how emerging technologies can help deliver Healthy Streets. Bruce pointed out that, with potentially 125,000 additional people expected to walk the “Square Mile” each day within the next 25 years, 84% of people currently think pavements are overcrowded, 60% believe that people walking are given too small a share of street space and 65% consider the needs of people walking to be under-prioritised.
