Our stellar line-up of keynote speakers for TRANSPORT Smart Class, Scotland 2024 includes Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop MSP/BPA, Stephen Sprott (Data and Innovation Manager) and Brian Davidson (Traffic Engineering Officer) from Glasgow City Council, and on behalf of HITRANS (The Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership), SATE programme lead Jayne Golding.

We’re excited to confirm further details on their presentations:

“The Vital Contribution of Technology and Digital Solutions to Providing a More Sustainable, Safe, Accessible and Inclusive Transport System” – In May 2024 Fiona Hyslop MSP/BPA was reappointed as the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Transport. We’re delighted to welcome her back to deliver the opening keynote:

“This keynote speech from the Cabinet Secretary for Transport sets the scene for wider discussion across the day – outlining the vision of our National Transport Strategy, the steps the Scottish Government is taking to support this vision and reflecting on the important contributions that technology and digital innovation can and will make in realising our long term ambitions for transport in across Scotland”.

“The Rise of the Machines – How the City of Glasgow is Using Artificial Intelligence and Data Capabilities to Improve Transport Operations” – This keynote on behalf of Glasgow City Council will explore the growing role of data insights and digital innovation to support decision making across the local road network, to assist with operational and management decisions about city traffic, and to enhance the experience of those using Glasgow’s roads.

Stephen Sprott, Data and Innovation Manager at Glasgow City Council, will outline some of the ways the city is making best use of the data generated around our transport network, and Brian Davidson, Traffic Engineering Officer, will demonstrate some of the cutting-edge technologies being deployed to improve active travel opportunities, increase bus reliability, reduce congestion, improve journey times and provide rich data on vehicle pollution and pedestrian footfall.

“Delivering a Sustainable Regional Aviation System and Improving Connectivity for the Highlands & Islands” – The Sustainable Aviation Test Environment (SATE) programme, led by HITRANS, aspires to become the UK’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Regional Aviation.

In this keynote, Jayne Golding, SATE Manager, will highlight the regions challenges and opportunities regarding transport, and how emerging sustainable aviation technologies can aid connectivity across the region.

The presentation will delve into the different strands of sustainable aviation that SATE is focusing on, and how each is bringing new opportunities to the Highlands & Islands and supporting the region’s goal of net zero aviation by 2045.
