We’re thrilled to confirm further details on our TRANSPORT Smart Class, London & South East England 2024 keynote speakers from Transport for London, Transport for the South East and Transport East, and the presentations they’ll be delivering next Thursday, 10th October, at Greencoat Place Conference Centre:
“Transport Impacts of the Elizabeth Line – So Far” – The Elizabeth line is the most significant addition to London’s transport network in a generation. In May of this year, The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:
“The Elizabeth line has been a game-changer for our city, transforming travel across London and the South East and delivering a £42bn boost to the UK economy. In just two years, more than 350 million journeys have been made and the line has directly impacted the development of 55,000 new homes and significantly supported employment growth. The Elizabeth line has played a vital role in our recovery from the pandemic and is helping to build a fairer, greener and more prosperous London for everyone.”
Geoff Hobbs is the Director of Public Transport Service planning for Transport for London covering London Underground, London buses, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway and trams. In this keynote presentation he will discuss:
- How TfL have adjusted their various transport networks to accommodate the new line
- How travel patterns have changed
- Impact on journey times, mode shift and travel behaviours
- Impact on population and employment change
“The Role of Sub-National Transport Bodies in a Changing Policy Landscape” – In this keynote, Keir Wilkins, Head of Programme and Policy at Transport for the South East (TfSE), will explore the opportunities and challenges of a new government for TfSE and other sub-national transport bodies:
“Sub-national transport bodies are now well established, with Transport Strategies in place feeding into their Strategic Investment Plans. This means sub-national transport bodies are well placed to help the new government deliver its ambitions. TfSE are also continuing to support our sixteen local authorities to help them deliver on their increasingly ambitious agendas, at a time of challenging public finances.
With the Government driving forward rail reform and developing plans for further devolution, sub-national transport bodies are perfectly positioned to bring together local, regional and national government, to help deliver a better integrated transport network for the future”.
“Delivering Transport Priorities in the East” – The new Government has set a fast pace for change, with a clear set of priorities for transport, focused on bus, rail and greener transport, greater integration, and geared towards boosting economic growth, decarbonisation and social inclusion. But how can this be delivered in places outside of large Metro areas, like the East of England?
This keynote presentation from Andrew Summers, Chief Executive of Transport East, will examine these challenges through the lens of the recently published Transport Strategy for the East, exploring the evidence base and initiatives underway in the region, to provide the audience with insights to help progress this agenda across other parts of the country.

Last year’s edition featured keynotes from EEH Managing Director, Naomi Green (above), DfT’s Head of Mobility and Passenger Experience, Meera Nayyar, and TfL’s Head of Technology and Data – Transport Services (Seconded), Charul Gupta.
TRANSPORT Smart Class, London & South East England 2024 will provide a fresh take on how to deploy the latest digital technology-enabled solutions, data-driven strategies, policies and best practices to tackle transport and mobility challenges faced by London, its hinterland, burgeoning smart city-regions of the South East and East Anglia, and beyond, and deliver a transport system that will allow passengers and citizens to travel efficiently, safely and with minimal impact on the environment.
In addition to our inspirational keynotes, the event will also feature:
- Rapid fire innovator presentations delivered by technology experts and thought leaders on behalf of Spare Labs (Antoine Lunet), Sustrans (Alison Litherland) and VivaCity (Shane Foley), each addressing a priority transport and mobility innovation topic and associated areas of application.
